Over the years, various technological innovations have drastically changed the society; how things are done, running of operations, and the day-to-day order of life. In overall, technological innovations has impacted on society by making life better and improving the living standards. Some of the key technological innovations that have been discovered and developed over the years include electricity, the elevator, and the internet.
Electricity is considered the most efficient source of energy used to drive numerous machineries. The technological innovation of electricity led to the invention of different approaches to labor leading to extensive saving. For example, through the innovation of electricity, development of devices used to substitute direct human labor were discovered. Also, it transformed the society in 24 hour operations as people transcended the dependence on daylight to carry out various activities. This culminated in the increase of productivity with extensive implications on the society such as economic growth, population increase, and overall development of cities, among other areas. Molinder, Karlsson and Enflo (2019) states that despite profound benefits impacted by the innovation of electricity in the society there are adverse effects such as loss of employment to machines. However, the benefits attained through the invention of electricity surpass the adverse effects created on the society. Therefore, the invention of electricity paved the way to other technological innovations – machines that are critical in advancing the quality of life.
Also, the elevator is one of the most crucial technological innovations that have been developed over the years. The invention of the elevator system made it possible for the development of tall buildings and the growth of urban centers (Nichols, 2018). The realization of the capacity to development of taller buildings made it possible to concentrate a high population in society within the same locale. The more the population increase (population density), the extensive the variations experienced in society. Such include, needs for social amenities, hospitals, transport networks, among others. As well, the elevator had a transformation in the class status and living contexts in society. For example, in earlier days, the poor tenants lived in the higher floors of a tall building (Al-Kodmany, 2015). This hierarchy change in society through the invention of the elevator prompted the richer tenants to live in higher floors as accessibility was made easier. Therefore, skyscrapers continue to rise giving unique identity to cities and societies across the world.
The invention of the internet has had the most profound impact on society. The internet makes it possible for sharing and transfer of information and connection of the people in different societies across the world (Solomon & van Klyton, 2020). The internet made communication more effective allowing interaction of societies beyond regional, national, and international boundaries. As well, through the internet, transport, health, education, entertainment, business, international relations, security – literally every discipline and facet of life has been made better. The societal improvement in the era of the internet has led to the attainment of higher living standards culminating in keeping people safe and healthy.
The invention of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) has illustrated a high capacity for the advancements in the society. Living in the era of the internet and technological advancements, the AI presents the capacity to gather extensive information, patterns, and trends leading to the development of early realization and assistive mechanism to enhance human life (Duggal, 2021). The AI is integral in speech and image recognition, smartphone assistance, navigation apps, security, health monitoring, and driving of economic trends, among others. The society is bound to attain higher developmental standards that are critical to the expansion of living standards. The AI is key to making human life more convenient, easier, and safer.
