Quasi-Experimental Method
Topic: The Dissertation topic for the proposed study is the perceptions of African American baby boomers (1946-1964) on discrimination.
The purpose of this research is to provide an in-depth analysis of perceptions of African American baby boomers (1946-1964) on discrimination. Evidence of systemic discrimination suggests a need for more active institutional interventions to address racism in policy and practice (Bleich et al., 2019). Racial discrimination is an overall experience among minorities in the United States, with up to 25% experiencing interpersonal discrimination attributed to race, ethnicity, or ancestry. Up to 60% experience at least some form of discrimination (Causadias & Korous, 2019). The scholarly literature on perceptions of discrimination against African Americans indicates that many African Americans believed that this is still one of the most significant issues they face within our society today is known.
With the study, future researchers will be able to acquire more information on the strategies they can employ to neutralize the issue of discrimination against African Americans because the challenges this group is experiencing in their respective work environments have been explained in detail. For instance, the study can play a central role in highlighting the emerging trends in discrimination against African Americans, which has continued to persist over the years until everyone thinks it is an ordinary practice. The constructs in this generic qualitative research will consist of: African Americans, baby boomers, discrimination, and internalized racism. The research will examine the beliefs of African Americans and how they self-perceived/perceived discrimination in their lives from a personal perspective. I will be using African American baby boomers and discrimination as my variables to conduct my research. The research will try to understand individual’s attitudes, beliefs and opinions about their experience with discrimination.
Research Question
The second research methodology is quasi-experimental method and the research questions that aligns with this methodology: PLEASE ALSO STATE RESEARCH QUESTION TO BE ADDRESSED
LENGTH: 1-2 sentences
TIPS: When stating your research question, make sure it is in actual question format. The research question should also highlight how the study is using a quasi-experimental design. Your quasi-experimental and true experimental studies can be very similar if you like (you could even use the same research question!). Just make sure to highlight how your quasi-experimental study will not use random assignment.
Rationale
The rationale for the purpose of quasi-experimental method research based on the research question.
LENGTH- 2-3 paragraphs
TIPS: Start off this section by stating the purpose of the study. This will be similar to the research question, but should not be in actual question format. Next, discuss how this study contributes to the literature, while highlighting why a quasi-experimental design is needed (e.g., perhaps random assignment would be too difficult or there would not be enough control of extraneous variables to conduct a true experimental study). Although the guidelines state that this should be 2-3 paragraphs, if you are able to condense this down into 1 well-articulated paragraph, that works for me!
Data Collection
Data to be collected based on the first methodology and to answer the research question.
LENGTH: 1-2 paragraphs
TIPS: Quasi-experimental studies have an independent variable that is manipulated, but no random assignment. Make sure to describe how the independent variable is manipulated, or if you are using groups, discuss what each group will experience (e.g., control group versus experimental group). Include how the dependent variable will be assessed (e.g., a survey, physiological markers like blood pressure, etc.). The methods used to collect your data should be set up in a way that will answer your research question.
