This can be cumbersome to the participants leading to the collection of irrelevant knowledge. As well, an online questionnaire allows any participant to take part in the exercise. This can lead to acquiring information from any person, including those lacking credible information on the exercise.

The data collected through the survey can be termed as highly reliable. This is because it is generated based on the number of participants and calculated to determine the percentage of the responses acquired on each question (Smyk, Tyrowicz & Van der Velde, 2021). The number of participants in the survey can be used to represent the overall population that uses similar tactics in accessing and reading materials online. For example, the determination of the participants’ opinions on the ease or cumbersomeness of reading online through the survey shows that 75.0% of the participants confirm the comfort to handle. In comparison, 25.0% affirm the cumbersome nature of the exercise. Therefore, such data is authentic and highly reliable as it determines the statistical value of any variable based on the number of participants.

Validate Collected Data

The use of a random selection of participants and focus groups can effectively validate the collected data. The randomly selected participants play an integral role in ascertaining the objectivity of the collected data regarding the exercise. The validity of the collected data needs to be as objective as positive (Mohajan, 2017). The removal of any bias in practice is crucial to the credibility, integrity, and authenticity of the collected data. In addition, the participants can be used to offer more information on their experiences using an online reading approach to access reading materials. Therefore, the use of randomly selected participants is a robust method of validating the collected data.

Moreover, focus groups such as students in a particular course can be most effective in validating the collected data in such a survey. The focus group constituting students in one course gives equal opportunity to determine the students’ perception of online reading and how the exercise can impact their reading schedules and capacity. The focus group will provide credible information on how the students feel and perceive online studying and access to reading materials. Therefore, a tutor, academic institution, or company conducting the survey can improve the students’ experience by making online reading more reliable, easy, and effective (Evans & Mathur, 2018).

Major Challenges of Online Questionnaire

The use of online questionnaires can prove to be tedious and cumbersome to the participants. This is based on the lack of clarity, confusing nature of the questions, misleading, or being too long to comprehend. As a result, the participants have a high likelihood of failing to identify the specific issue or problem they need to address in the questionnaire (Andrabe, 2020). The use of ambiguous rating systems fails to give the participants a chance to clarify their answers, instead only relying on the opinion of the questions asked. Therefore, this can prove challenging to the participants as they fail to comprehend the extent of the questions, issues covered, and answers to offer to express their views.

Finally, online questionnaires have the challenge of receiving dishonest answers. This is because of acquiring solutions anonymously where the participants can answer questions in a way that they cannot convey their feelings or express emotions. These limitations pose a profound challenge to engage the participants effectively and acquire personalized information. As a result, the respondent can present hidden agendas in online questionnaires and obtain incorrect details. Therefore, it is integral to select the participants very carefully to ensure the information they offer is credible, valid, and authentic.
