The Soviet Union was formed in 1921 as a result of civil war; it happened after overthrowing the old monarchy of Romanov which had ruled for centuries. It originated from the Russian revolution back in 1917 which threw Czar Nicholas II out of power [1].
After, a civil war erupted whereby the red army led by Bolsheviks overpowered white army and took over the government [2]. The USSR was initially formed through a treaty between Ukraine, Transcaucasia, Russia and, Belarus and its peak it had evolved and grown to a total of 15 republics [3].
In 1989, a revolution in Poland attributed to other revolutions in countries located in Eastern Europe which tore apart USSR[4].
Mikhail is Russian and a former politician of the Soviet Union [5]. He was a Communist Party Secretary-general between 1985 and 1991. Mikhail happened to be the Soviets Union’s last leader. He came with two policies, namely perestroika and glasnost, which aimed and making USSR productive and successful. The glasnost strategy advocated for openness in the political scene, addressed people’s restrictions and eliminated Stalinist repression traces[6].
The perestroika policy was for restructuring the economy[7] [8]. It imitated the Chinese system of Capitalist-Communist. The committee that makes policies, controlled economy direction while the market forces were allowed to make some decisions concerning development and production[9].
Canada, the United States and its allies formed the NATO treaty as a strategy to counter USSR. USSR consolidated the western countries to form a power rival union known as Warsaw, which kicked off the cold war [10] [11].
The power struggle during the cold war period created political and economic wage between the western and eastern blocs [12]. It also caused military escalations and tension globally.
