At any given time, instructors are supposed to identify the different abilities possessed by students and align their interests with their varying expectations about life. From this realization, the focus should be directed towards the desire to expose learners to an enabling environment where they understand the issues taking place in their surroundings. This paper seeks to discover the significance of higher education in the U.S. and the approaches that should be taken by learning institutions to improve the cognitive functions of individuals. Instructors should identify the different abilities of high school students before recommending strategies that enable them to realize their potential. Identifying the political aspects that interfere with the quality of higher education in the U.S. will enable different stakeholders to engage in activities that focus on improving the learners’ attitude. Although scholars are saying learning institutions should be provided with adequate materials to accomplish certain objectives affecting the cognitive functions of learners, policymakers believe that they should control the nature of activities taking place in the institutions.
