The Learner Guided Approach

Organizations are adopting the learner-guided approach in the search for resource conservation. The learner-guided approach refers to the learning methods through which organizations give freedom to their workers to control themselves on when to learn, learn, and cover what they should cover during the learning process. Although the method is rapidly being adopted across companies and organizations, it fails to address cognitive ability and goal orientation. To increase the effectiveness of the learner-guided approach, organizations should use three elements related to the approach. These approaches include developing a framework that acts as the guiding tool to learners, harnessing strategies that allow self-direction during the learning process, and adopting appropriate technologies that facilitate the learning process.

The training guides refer to the essential tool aligning with the topic of study. These guides could mean the use of a journal with pre-defined questions which the learners answer. The pre-defined questions relate to the purpose, importance, and competency relationship of the learning activity, whereby they relate to the organization’s essential aspects. The self-directing strategies give the learner the freedom to control several options of the learning process. These strategies are essential in increasing the learner-guided approach since they are well prescribed to meet the organization’s goals. The self-directed learning process enables the employees to be more diverse. According to Arneson et al. (2013), employees in an organization are differently gifted; hence, self-directed learning strategies enable all employees to learn at their own pace depending on their grasping ability and provide diverse ways to accommodate all employees in the organization. This element is therefore essential in the learner-guided approach since it increases individual scores and performance. It also motivates and increases the employee’s and coaches’ morale to work in the organization. Innovative technology is also an essential tool that can increase the effectiveness of the learner-guided approach in an organization. As technology increases, companies should adopt appropriate technologies under the guidance of reliable personnel.

Organizations can adapt the learner-guided approach in several operations. For instance, they can use the learner-guided approach to ensure individualized instructions. This is the custom training that is effective for a particular learner. Through the learner-guided approach, the individualized instructions can start at the initial stage of the training, which then allows the learners to demonstrate their mastery during the training. Organizations can also use the learner-guided approach in allowing learners to manage their programs. Organizations can allow learners to select appropriate resources, manage time, schedule training activities, and organize performance evaluations. The process enables the learners to develop mastery in their management skills. Thirdly, organizations can adopt the system by emphasizing mastery learning. Mastery learning enables those who learn slowly to gain mastery in different training content. In the mastery approach, learners determine the practice they can do to request an evaluation at their own comfortable time.

Technology is essential in facilitating the learner-guided approach. Innovative technology is vital for the learner-guided approach for two reasons. One, it enables more accessible access to information through the internet and other applications like email. Secondly, I help the learners and the coaches manage the learning outcomes essential for the learners and the general organization. In the field of information management, smart technology can facilitate the learner-guided approach in several ways. For instance, it allows the designing of depository training guides. According to John et al. (2016), technology provides a place where guides to employees are stored and easily accessed. It also facilitates a more straightforward assessment of the learning process hence determining the success of the process. Technology also enables effective planning and proper result recording before and during training, hence identifying how individualized learning benefits the learners. Technology also enables the organization to create a library for future reference. The technologies allow the creation of different platforms like websites accessed through links that open when needed. This platform enables the creation of many resource files and folders that are systematically organized for learners to identify and access easily when they need consultation (John et al., 2016). Besides, the easily shared links enable faster transfer of information, which is beneficial to employees. Technologies also enable easier updating of the organization’s data that is essential to the employees.
