In 2016, the American Nurses Association (ANA) lauded President Obama’s efforts to reduce gun sales through the formulation of policies aimed at mitigating gun violence. The response outlines the close relationship between gun violence and mental health issues. Besides, it also demonstrates how the nursing practitioners will benefit from reduced trauma caused by their interaction with victims of gun violence (American Nurses Association, 2016). For this reason, the increased commitment by the Obama administration towards mental health issues will play a significant role in reducing the high cases of gun violence in the U.S.

Under workplace health and safety, the ANA helps its members overcome work-related stress by exposing them to an environment where they can receive the much-needed support to accomplish their goals. Combating stress is an important activity in the nursing context because of its ability to respond to different patient cases (American Nurses Association, N.D.). Through its Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation (HNHN) initiative, the ANA is playing an essential role in overcoming various issues that hinder nurses from executing their roles in the health facilities.
