After performing the class activity, I realized discrimination has far-reaching consequences that hinder the growth and development of a community because of the adverse effects of racism on national relations. For instance, as an African American woman in the online activity, it was impossible for me to secure a house in a suburban gated community despite having a good credit score and the required deposit.
Even though the justice system exists to address such cases of discrimination, I ended up spending more than I would have in legal fees because of the structural racism that exists in the U.S. and other developed countries. From this perspective, housing discrimination presents a series of problems where minority groups are shown 18% fewer homes than the dominant population group. I am certain that the ongoing normalization of white privilege in the housing sector has introduced various problems that have culminated into racism in the U.S. and other developed countries.
