Professional Nursing Organization: American Nurses Association (ANA)

The American Nurses Association was initiated in 1896 in New York City as the Nurses’ Associated Alumnae of Canada and the United States. In 1901, ANA subsumed in New York, separated from Canada, and shortened its name to Nurses’ Associated Alumnae. Its primary goals were to address the financial problems of nurses, acquire licensure for nurses, instituted a nurses’ code of morals, and founded state legislation that can control nursing practices. American Nurses Association (ANA) provides networking chances for its registered members in various ways. These include the American Nurses Association meetings and mentorship program, and conferences that involve National and State-Level Lobby Day, and ANA Quality and Innovation Conferences.
