The readings from class aim to explore the issue of counter-terrorism and resolutions in place. From the readings, it is apparent that international bodies such as the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) have been very vital in the fight against terror threats. From chapter four of the book, the author remarkably expounds on resolutions that were passed by UNSC after the 9/11 attacks in the US (Minnella, 2019). The chapter also focuses on other resolutions passed as a way of countering terrorism and ensuring that more stringent measures are in place to help in reducing the risks posed by the terror threats.
The reading by Minnella (2019) is very comprehensive on the topic of study, where it provides an in-depth analysis of counter-terrorism resolutions and how they may help in n providing sustainable solutions to the increasing cases of extremism across the globe. It also offers an insight into how to have a balance between fighting terrorism and observing human rights. From the readings, the challenges faced on the New counter-terrorism measures and how this continues to be a major challenge for human rights are also meticulously addressed.
All the readings are very helpful due to their deep insights on the subject topic ad help one have a better comprehension of the fight against terrorism and the challenges faced by the mandated bodies. I agree with Emmerson (2018), that, human rights guarantees have been a subject of dual proceeds of contention. This is since it is always hard to differentiate between separating human rights and norms and sovereignty. From the readings, I, therefore, believe that there is a major struggle in balancing these two acts in the fight against terrorism, which ought to be addressed in the future.
