While the U.S. has introduced various measures to control the ownership of firearms such as background checks, the country continues to encounter a high number of gun-related violence incidents that water down the progress. From this perspective, the federal government should impose stringent policies that discourage individuals from accessing guns because of their impact on society. Even though the reasons for gun ownership are genuine, there is a need to understand the issues affecting people in their immediate environment.

Mass shootings in the U.S. have significantly over the years, with 248 incidents being reported as at July 2019. From this realization, the cases of gun violence have made individuals to raise concerns regarding the country’s gun policies, which aim at controlling the vice. The authors in this research identify mass shootings as independent scenarios, where four or more people are killed by a gun. By introducing reforms that compel states to tighten their measures on gun ownership, it is possible to reduce the incidents of mass shootings reported in the country. Controlling gun ownership is a subject that elicits different conversations because of the various beliefs held by individuals across the country. Over the years, many people have expressed their beliefs towards the existing gun laws by attributing them to uncertainties that occur in their immediate environment. However, sections of the U.S. public have turned the conversation into a generational conflict, where senior citizens believe it is a right to own guns. In the same vein, they also argue that young people should not be allowed to become gun owners, a move that has delayed the decision-making process on such an important legal issue. From this observation, senior citizens and conservatives should demonstrate their leadership skills by condemning the state governments for failing to create systems that can lengthen the process of owning a gun. The author in this research argues that the intergenerational conflict distracts individuals from understanding the implications of gun control on the world today. Therefore, gun control policies should be reinforced to safeguard individuals from impending danger.

Gun violence has been attributed to the leading cause of death among the young people, a move that explains the renewed energy among young activists to push for stringent gun control measures. Many African youths, between the age of 15 and 24, have succumbed to gun-related violence, an aspect that has overturned other factors believed to claim the lives of the young people. Understanding the motive of the shooters has become a controversial subject, as many are said to be suffering from mental issues such as depression. Even though their health situations do not justify their actions, the world should know that people die from mass shootings because of the easy accessibility of guns across the country. In this regard, the federal government should introduce particular policies that surpass the existing laws to create an effective system that discourages individuals from becoming gun owners. Creating a safe and secure environment can be helpful, to eliminate the desire to own firearms.
Conclusion
