The study also examined whether certain beliefs about society lead ideology into assent. Therefore, this study examined how system justifying beliefs support inequality in United States. ESJ and SDO were negatively correlated with all wealth redistribution measures. As expected, individuals that hold system justifying beliefs tend to oppose redistribution thus opposing a range of non-governmental and governmental redistribution acts.

Study 1, as expected, subjective socioeconomic status revealed a negative link with perceptions of unequal wealth distribution as just and fair but did not indicate the predicted negative relationship with actual inequality perceptions (Rodriguez et al., 2017). Study 2 results showed that economic system justification and social dominance orientation were associated with opposition to redistribution. The study indicates how people’s ideologies can impact perceptions of attitudes and inequality towards redistribution (Rodriguez et al., 2017). Therefore, the article shows that ideology and class can be significant barriers to understanding inequality and wealth distribution.

Real-world application and implications of the studies

Over the years, people have believed that life chances are distributed unevenly between groups and individuals due to social factors such as social class position. People have the ideology that the higher social class individuals have more chances to access resources, leading to inequality. Most people have connected social inequality to the underlying structures of privilege and power. Regarding the study, the most important thing is to accept that inequality is a societal issue and that people have the command to reduce it. Challenging the ideological barriers is a practical consideration in addressing the historic levels of inequality.
