Francesco Petrarca (1304-1374 CE) was an Italian poet and researcher accredited to being one of the Late Medieval/Renaissance first Humanist authors. Petrarch travelled through medieval archives seeking ancient documents, particularly of antique Roman authors. Petrarch did not only collect antique Roman writers but replicated their style of writing. Based on his letter, Francis Petrarch demonstrates a significant aspect of classical humanism. Foremost, his expressions divulge us the fact that he led a humble, basic and conventional life. He did not give much significance to other aspects of life. Based on his utterance, “I have, on the contrary, led a contented life with simple living and conventional fare compared every other Apicius follower, with their intricate dainties.
Francis Petrarch’s way of life divulges the classical humanism aspect in him. Second, He is modest enough to contemplate himself as an ordinary human being similar to others rather than thinking he is extraordinary. This is a distinct proof of his humanistic mode of reasoning. While he provides an explanation regarding himself, he believes that most individuals that surround him bear a contradictory way of thinking regarding his way of life. They believe that his style was clear and forcible. This is founded on their opinions and inclinations to actuality, moral or malicious. However, he depicts himself as an underprivileged mortal, like other people, not very illustrious in his origin, but with the most humble birth, excluding his association with the prehistoric household. His distinctive desire for freedom to move on abandoning the assets he was accorded signifies a trait of humanism. Even though he had as much to benefit from and boast for having links with monarchs and princes, Francis Petrarch’s journey to pleasure by living a modest life is a clear revelation.
