Final Exam: Research Proposal

The final exam research proposal seeks to illustrate the overall understanding of the course contents and materials in regards to research enquiry. The research methods are critical steps to develop key knowledge and insights regarding a particular subject.  In the research proposal, the focus study entails the study on home-based care as a contemporary health solution. This is prompted by the desire to provide efficient services and ascertain the involvement of patients in their care, treatment, and intervention approaches. The capacity to involve patients is critical to the overall improvement of their well-being. This impacts in the creation of knowledge and understanding of the diseases and health problems most patients suffer. Hence, it is integral to promotion of healthcare services and enhance the efficiency of service delivery by the nursing profession.

Research Question

The following are the three key questions driving the research: –

  • What is the role of patient’s in home-based care services?
  • What is the role of the nursing practice in home-based care services?
  • How does home-based care improve healthcare service delivery?

Hypothesis and Theoretical Justification

The hypothesis revolves on the significance of researching home-based care towards improving healthcare service delivery. This is based on the involvement of patient’s in their own care delivery and the capacity to adequately engage informed individuals. The potential of the venture is to develop health informed individuals that can actively be useful in their care access and delivery. As a two-fold approach, the nursing practice can highly rely on informed patients to access crucial information and details on the health of the patients (Ragin, 1987). This is bound to efficient medical decisions and progressive treatment approaches. The nursing practice is bound to extend its horizon developing new skills in preparation for efficient service delivery. This is fundamental to the future of the nursing profession where patients and nurses work collaboratively. The access to patients at all the time helps monitor the progress of care delivery and administered treatment and intervention measures. Hence, the research is of profound importance to the society and future of healthcare services delivery.

Description and Justification of the Research Design

The research design will utilize a mixed approach comprising of both qualitative and quantitative methods. This is integral to ensure the research gets the in-depth analysis of the perceptions of both the patients and nursing professions, as well as, the statistical significance of the implementation of the phenomenon (Maxfield & Babbie, 2014). The home-based care should provide key insights on the best practices and functionalities of the system. The qualitative research approach allows to examine the behaviors, perceptions and views towards the implementation of home-based care system (Creswell, 2013). This is crucial for the understanding of the holistic conceptualization of healthcare services delivery. Also, the quantitative research approach will provide extensive understanding of the functionality of the home-based care and the number of patients that can successfully access quality and high standard services at any given time (Morgan, 1988). Therefore, the use of mixed research approach provides extensive analysis of the study and their functionalities towards competitive and efficient service delivery.

Measurement Issues / Key Variables

The variables of measurement comprise of the number of patients that are successfully treated. Through increase monitoring, surveillance, and recording of the patient’s progress, the research outlines the capacity to succeed on the study as the primary variable (Atkinson, 1998). This will be impacted by the enhancing capacity building through training of the nurses to impact on efficient service delivery. As a measurement issue, the nursing practice will illustrate the improvement of services’ quality and standards. This will be attained through patient’s surveys and ratings of the nursing practice professionalism (McCracken, 1988). The delivery of services is the primary feature in which the research seeks to improve. Hence, the capacity to achieve service differentiation and efficiency is critical to emphasize on the value and significance of the study (Aldrich & Cunningham, 2016).

Sample or Case Selection

The sample selection will be randomly selected by under controlled environment. The random selection of the sample size will be based on the services offered by different nurses to different patients. This evaluation will focus on hospital setting and home-based care functionalities and different levels. The selection of the nurses participating in the research will be randomly selected (Holstein & Gubrium, 1995). The patients where home-based care services are delivered are in controlled environment. Therefore, ascertain that the study remains on course and strictly adheres to the set guidelines.

Data Collection Methods

The data collection methods will comprise of two approaches. First, the use surveys where both nurses and patients give feedback on the implementation and running of the home-based care settings. The survey questionnaire will focus on assessing the views, perceptions, and feelings of both the nurses and the patients towards the home-based care approach (Fox, Levin & Forde, 2013). Second, the use of participants’ observation. The observation approach will analyze the conduct and impact created on the patients through the implementation of the approach. This is vital to give the statistical value of the successful cases and identification of the best practices utilized in the functioning of the home-based care setting (Healey, 2014).

Data Analysis

The data analysis approach will utilize Pearson Correlation test SPSS to determine the output and interpretation in the relationship between nursing professions and patients in delivering quality home-based care services (Barrett & Cason, 2010). The capacity for the two entities to function together effectively is critical for the realization of the set objective. This is crucial to the success of the study.

Ethical Concerns

The ethical concerns form an integral entity of the study. The ethical concerns revolve on the involvement of the nursing professionals and approval of patients to be included in the study. The assurance of maintaining study anonymity is offered to both participants as they will be referred on general terms as “Patients” and “Nursing Professionals” participants (Hantrais, 2008).  This is to ensure the anonymity of the participants of the study remains so and the protection of patient health information is kept confidential. Hence, this will give the participants confidence to take part in the study and focus on attaining the objectives of the study without bias or influencing the course of the outcomes towards any direction.
