In the evolving world of information technology, firms embrace innovative solutions to remain afloat in the competitive business environment. One of the most effective approaches that our firm should adopt is a relational database solution. Notably, the innovative technology eliminates data redundancy by ensuring that customer information appears in a specific location. The customer table accommodates the desired information and will enable the firm to track their activities and interactions with the organization. In this regard, we can use the relational database solution to keep information on stray, lost, or surrendered dogs. Interested customers can easily retrieve data using the valuable features of the relational database solution, improving their overall satisfaction levels. From this realization, building a database requires firms to identify the underlying issues and align the innovative solution with the proposed measures to overcome the problems affecting firm performance.
It should be noted that a relational database categorizes information according to tables, making it easier to retrieve the data using a single query. Notably, the innovative technology allows firms to link tables based on the data similarity levels (Lubis & Zamzami, 2020). In this case, our dog shelter will benefit immensely from the relational database solution because of the need to categorize animal data based on a wide range of values such as dog breed, among others. Structured Query Language (SQL) is the standard communication approach used when handling management systems. Even though SQL is a technical subject, employees who are not conversant with coding and SQL can easily maneuver the relational database solution because of its undemanding nature (Solihin et al., 2020). However, the dog shelter might require the input of SQL analysts who can interpret the findings and generate reports that enable the firm to make critical decisions on the management of the selected animals. Unlike other management systems, a relational database will compile the query from the animal and customer tables before identifying the accurate data values used by the executive to make informed decisions.
One benefit of adopting a relational database system in our dog shelter is retrieving meaningful data by joining tables. When handling this management system, joining tables will enable employees to establish the relationship between different data values before making an informed decision. Likewise, the database system is flexible, eliminates data redundancy, and can easily be backed up, making it easier for the firm to recover data in case of a crisis. Some of the relational databases that our firm can adopt include MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Db2. Compared to NoSQL, firms must weigh between availability and consistency.
