What is your favorite method of written communication? Do you like to text or use e-mail? More often, do you tend to use your favorite online social networking app? No matter how you do it, the fact is, you write every day. Discussing your writing habits with peers will always help you improve, because in doing so, you will exchange ideas and styles of writing.
What you learn about writing in this course will build on what you already know about writing, and this will help prepare you for academic and workplace writing. The good news is that because this is your fourth or fifth course at AIU, you have already started to get involved in academic writing. With that in mind, this assignment will help you to reflect on your writing skills—and make them better!
Let’s begin by doing a little self-reflection.
Download this template to help you complete this assignment. Compose your original post to the Discussion Board addressing the following three points:
Writing List: Think about all of the kinds of writing that you do. Make a list. Be sure to include any writing you do for school as well as work and your personal or family life.
Writing Skills: Keeping in mind the kinds of writing you do, rank the following foundational writing skills in order from 1 to 3. Number 1 should be your strongest skill.
Grammar and punctuation
Consider Your Resources: What resources, tools, and experts do you know of that AIU provides to help you improve your writing? What non-AIU resources or tools would you suggest? List as many potential sources of help as you can and how you think these might specifically be able to assist you.
