PROJECT SCOPE

Introduction

First, select a company from the list in this week’s introduction. You will use this same organization as a foundation for all of your assignments in this course. Please contact your instructor for approval to use a company that is not on the list.

Once you have selected your organization, you will evaluate the existing security infrastructure and suggest changes to improve the cost and efficiency of managing the security. Please list any assumptions going into the project so your instructor is aware.

For this assignment, use the course resources, the Capella library, and the Internet to research the subject matter.

Additionally, each week’s assignments must be completed using the Course Project Template [DOCX].

Instructions

Now that you have an understanding of the project and the company’s needs, include the following in the initial scope document and proposal:

• Describe the scope of your project by providing an overview of the selected organization. Include an overview of the organization, its size and location, and the reason for choosing it.
• Describe the main business problems and goals that are related to information technology. Include information about the organizational user, organizational systems, and the security requirements.
• Describe decision makers and stakeholders on whom you would rely to develop a requirements analysis and traverse through the information-gathering phases of a security infrastructure deployment project.
• Define a project timeline and outline that coincides with the system and/or infrastructure component life cycle stages. Additionally, identify the security components, requirements, and concerns that will need to be addressed.
• Explain the roles of availability, confidentiality, authentication, and integrity in identifying the project scope for the organization.
• Given the global nature of the organization, identify any unique challenges that you anticipate facing from regulatory, human resources, and/or cultural standpoints.
• You are encouraged to provide resources and citations. Any references should be formatted according to APA style (see Evidence and APA for more information).

Note: There should be at least one link in your references to the company website. The “about” section, annual report, and investor news are good sources of information for developing the scope and approach. The project’s scope is to create an enterprise security infrastructure solution for a company that addresses globalization components. Implementation is not the scope of the current project but should be considered, as required for the assignments in Weeks 2–4. In subsequent assignments, you will need to document cost, ongoing vendor support, and feasibility in the organizational environment.
